Rupture disc
Rupture discs from Continental Disc Corporation offer reliable overpressure and underpressure protection - wherever safety, process integrity and precise pressure protection are required. They react quickly and reliably - regardless of the medium - and are therefore equally suitable for the immediate depressurization of gases and liquids.
The product range includes Forward-Acting and Reverse-Acting bursting discs, the hygienically certified HPX series, protective accessories and indicators for safe monitoring. The products are used in industries such as pharmaceutical, food, chemical engineering, energy and pulp/paper.
The advantages are fast response, media-independent operation, high hygiene standards and effective protection against damage to facilities.

Screw-Type and Tite-Seal assemblies are available with a variety of inlet and outlet connections to accommodate various applications.Continental Disc Corporation -
Burst Disc IndicatorsBDI-FLX Burst Disc Sensor System
The BDI-FLX Burst Disc Sensor System provides instantaneous notification of a burst rupture disc. When combined with an alarm monitor, this system protects lives, equipment and the environment. Designed for use with ASME and DIN flanges or sanitary applications, the BDI-FLX employs a sensor strip with a flexible potentiometer (an electrical component that varies resistance in response to deflection) to signal a burst disc.Continental Disc Corporation -
Burst Disc IndicatorsMTB-700 Alarm Monitor
A critical component of a complete Burst Disc Indicator (BDI) Alarm System, the MTB-700 Alarm Monitor links to as many as four ruptured discs to alert your nearby control room of ruptured discs. Upon disc rupture, the MTB-700’s intrinsically safe galvanically isolated barriers activate signals or output relays to warn operators and actuate pumps, valves or other equipment connected to the system.Continental Disc Corporation -
Burst Disc IndicatorsBurst Disc Indicator Alarm System
Reduce downtime, increase efficiency and ensure the safety of your facility with the BDI (Burst Disc Indicator) Alarm System. When an overpressure or vacuum condition causes a disc to rupture, the BDI immediately sends a signal to the control room to alert the system operator. The heart of the Burst Disc Indicator Alarm System is the BDI Alarm Strip. When a disc ruptures, it severs the electrically charged strip, opening the circuit and signaling the control room. We've developed an optional alarm monitor system to notify operators or activate appropriate equipment.Continental Disc Corporation -
Specialized Rupture DiscsExplosion Vent Panels
Our explosion vent panels provide instantaneous overpressure protection for nearly any type of pressurized dry-bulk handling and storage equipment. The vent panels are designed to allow a full and immediate opening to minimize structural or mechanical damage by expanded gases from the combustion of dust, gases or mists inside equipment, rooms, buildings or other enclosures.Continental Disc Corporation -
Specialized Rupture DiscsWMP Welded Muffled Plug Rupture Disc Assembly
Protect equipment, personnel and the environment with the threaded, single-use WMP Welded Muffled Plug rupture disc assembly. The WMP is ideal for applications that discharge to the atmosphere at the rupture disc. The WMP is a solid-metal, tension-acting rupture disc that screws directly into a threaded port, providing precise overpressure protection with minimal installation time.Continental Disc Corporation -
Specialized Rupture DiscsWell Activation and Safety Protection Rupture Discs
Replace shear pins and other moving devices with our Well Activation and Safety Protection rupture discs to save valuable time and labor on the drill site. Designed to release pressure to activate tools in the hole or to protect downhole drill components from overpressure failure, our Well Activation and Safety Protection Rupture Discs use rupture disc technology to achieve high accuracy and reliability. These rupture discs are offered in two burst-direction configurations, Type A and Type I.Continental Disc Corporation -
Forward-Acting Rupture DiscsGRAFSERT Rupture Disc
A single, solid, phenolic resin-impregnated slab of graphite makes up the GRAFSERT rupture disc. This design makes the GRAFSERT a highly dependable, low-maintenance rupture disc, ideal for highly corrosive applications and remote installations. The GRAFSERT is single-direction disc capable of withstanding burst ratios up to 80% in static service.Continental Disc Corporation
Learn more about blasting caps
What is a blasting cap?
A bursting diaphragm is a reliable safety solution to protect industrial facilities against overpressure and vacuum. The component consists of a thin metal diaphragm designed to burst at a precisely predetermined pressure.
Rupture discs are widely used in piping systems, tanks and process equipment in the chemical, energy, food and pharmaceutical industries, among others. They are available in several dimensions and pressure classes, making them adaptable to many different applications.
How does a blasting cap work?
The bursting diaphragm acts as a passive protection that is activated when a critical differential pressure is reached. When the diaphragm ruptures, the system is immediately relieved and the risk of damage to equipment or leakage of hazardous media is minimized. Since the rupture disc has no moving parts, opening takes place in a few milliseconds and the function is both predictable and stable over time.
Advantages of blasting plates
Bursting discs offer several advantages over traditional safety valves in the right applications. They provide very fast and accurate pressure relief and are completely tight during normal operation, preventing unwanted leakage.
The simple design means minimal maintenance and a long service life, often several years without the need for replacement. In addition, rupture discs are a cost-effective solution that can be used with gases, liquids and mixed media in a wide range of industries.
