More Efficient Production and Reduced Costs with the Right Pump Solution

Av Colly Flowtech

When one of Sweden’s largest food producers faced recurring production interruptions and high maintenance costs, a sustainable and reliable pump solution was needed. Through a close collaboration with Viking Pump Hygienic, we at Colly Flowtech provided a tailored solution for food production with the Revolution rotary lobe pump. This resulted in fewer downtimes, lower service costs, and more efficient production.

The Challenge: Operational Disruptions and High Maintenance Costs

The customer, a leading player in the food industry, was experiencing recurring issues with an older lobe pump, particularly when handling tomato-based products. These products contain small, hard particles that over time affected the pump’s functionality. This led to increased friction, accelerated wear, and unplanned production stops.

Maintenance costs were also high, as the pump required frequent servicing and frequent replacement of spare parts. These production disruptions caused delays and financial losses, creating uncertainty in operations.

The Solution: Upgrading to Viking Pump Hygienic – Revolution Rotary Lobe Pump

To ensure stable and consistent operation while reducing maintenance costs, the customer needed a reliable, durable, and efficient pump solution. After a thorough analysis of the production flow and the specific challenges the customer faced, we recommended an upgrade to the Revolution rotary lobe pump.

Ronnie Nilsson, a sales representative at Colly Flowtech and an expert in the field, conducted a detailed analysis together with the customer. Ronnie’s extensive experience and unwavering commitment made him a key player in finding the most effective solution.

A Revolution rotary lobe pump offers several unique advantages compared to traditional lobe pumps. The innovative rotor geometry, designed for optimized rotor movement and contact with liquids, allows for gentle and efficient handling of particles and products. This results in a more continuous and stable production, reducing the risk of unplanned downtimes.

To further enhance durability and lifespan, Armoloy TDC coating (an FDA-certified surface treatment) was applied. This creates an extremely wear-resistant and corrosion-resistant surface, reducing maintenance needs and significantly extending the pump’s operational life.

The collaboration with Viking Pump Hygienic was crucial in developing a solution that truly met the customer’s needs. Together, we conducted a detailed review of the entire production flow, identifying specific challenges related to particles and products. Viking Pump’s team contributed with deep technical knowledge and insights into how a new rotor geometry could handle these issues more effectively. This collaboration led to a customized solution that not only solved immediate problems but also increased the pump’s long-term efficiency and durability.

The Result: More Stable Operation and Lower Costs

After installing the Revolution rotary lobe pump with Armoloy TDC coating, the customer immediately noticed a positive change in the production flow. The pump’s improved durability and optimized design led to more stable operations while significantly reducing the need for maintenance. Previous issues with wear and unexpected downtime have decreased significantly, contributing to a more predictable and reliable production process.

A major advantage of the new pump is its service-friendly design. The front-mounted seal arrangement on the Revolution rotary lobe pump allows maintenance staff to perform servicing quickly and easily without disassembling the entire pump. This has saved valuable time and reduced service-related costs.

In addition to improved operational reliability, the customer has also been able to reduce their spare parts inventory. Since the pump’s wear-resistant components have a longer lifespan, fewer spare parts are needed in stock. This has freed up capital and created a more optimized inventory management system, contributing to a more cost-effective production.

Overall, upgrading to the Revolution rotary lobe pump has resulted in fewer production stoppages, lower maintenance costs, and a more reliable operation – allowing the customer to focus on their core business without worrying about unexpected disruptions.
