How much is a pound in kilograms?
1 pound (lb) is equal to 0.4536 kilogram (kg).
Example calculation:
If you have 10 pounds:
10 × 0.4536 = 4.536 kg
So 10 lb = 4.54 kg.
How much is an ounce in grams?
1 ounce (oz) is equal to 28.35 grams (g).
Example calculation:
If you have 8 ounces:
8 × 28,35 = 226,8 g
So 8 oz = 227 g.
Common Weight Conversions
Grams to Kilograms
One kilogram is equal to 1,000 grams. To convert grams to kilograms, divide the number of grams by 1,000.
Formula:
Gram ÷ 1,000 = kilogram
Example:
100 g = 0.1 kg
500 g = 0.5 kg
1,000 g = 1 kg
2,500 g = 2.5 kg
A product weighing 750 grams is equivalent to:
750 ÷ 1,000 = 0.75 kg
Kilograms to grams
To convert kilograms to grams, multiply the number of kilograms by 1,000.
Formula:
Kilograms × 1,000 = grams
Example:
0.5 kg = 500 g
1 kg = 1,000 g
2.5 kg = 2,500 g
10 kg = 10,000 g
Kilograms to metric tons
One metric ton is equal to 1,000 kilograms. To convert kilograms to metric tons, divide the number of kilograms by 1,000.
Formula:
Kilograms ÷ 1,000 = metric tons
Example:
100 kg = 0.1 metric ton
500 kg = 0.5 metric tons
1,000 kg = 1 metric ton
2,500 kg = 2.5 metric tons
A machine component weighing 1,750 kg is equivalent to:
1,750 ÷ 1,000 = 1.75 metric tons
Tons to kilograms
To convert metric tons to kilograms, multiply the number of metric tons by 1,000.
Formula:
Tonne × 1,000 = kilogram
Example:
0.5 metric tons = 500 kg
1 metric ton = 1,000 kg
2 metric tons = 2,000 kg
10 metric tons = 10,000 kg
Ounces to Grams
An ounce, abbreviated as oz, is a unit of weight used primarily in the United States and the United Kingdom. One ounce is equal to approximately 28.35 grams.
Formula:
Ounce × 28.35 = grams
Example:
1 oz ≈ 28.35 g
2 oz ≈ 56.70 g
5 oz ≈ 141.75 g
10 oz ≈ 283.50 g
A component weighing 8 oz is equivalent to:
8 × 28.35 ≈ 226.8 g
Grams to Ounces
To convert grams to ounces, divide the number of grams by approximately 28.35.
Formula:
Gram ÷ 28.35 = ounce
Example:
100 g ≈ 3.53 oz
250 g ≈ 8.82 oz
500 g ≈ 17.64 oz
1,000 g ≈ 35.27 oz
Pounds to kilograms
The pound, abbreviated as lb, is often used in American and British product data sheets. One pound is equivalent to approximately 0.4536 kilograms.
Formula:
Pound × 0.4536 = kilogram
Example:
1 lb ≈ 0.45 kg
5 lb ≈ 2.27 kg
10 lb ≈ 4.54 kg
100 lb ≈ 45.36 kg
A product weighing 50 lb is equivalent to:
50 × 0.4536 ≈ 22.68 kg
Kilograms to pounds
To convert kilograms to pounds, multiply the number of kilograms by approximately 2.2046.
Formula:
Kilograms × 2.2046 = pounds
Example:
1 kg ≈ 2.20 lb
5 kg ≈ 11.02 lb
10 kg ≈ 22.05 lb
100 kg ≈ 220.46 lb
A pump weighing 35 kg is equivalent to:
35 × 2.2046 ≈ 77.16 lb
Stone to kilogram
The stone is primarily used in the United Kingdom. One stone is equal to 14 pounds, which is approximately 6.35 kilograms.
Formula:
Stone × 6.3503 = kilogram
Example:
1 unit ≈ 6.35 kg
5 pieces ≈ 31.75 kg
10 pieces ≈ 63.50 kg
20 pieces ≈ 127.01 kg
American tons to kilograms
An American ton, also known as a short ton, is equal to 2,000 pounds or approximately 907.18 kilograms.
Formula:
American tons × 907.18 = kilograms
Example:
1 short ton ≈ 907.18 kg
2 short tons ≈ 1,814.37 kg
5 short tons ≈ 4,535.92 kg
British tons to kilograms
A British ton, also known as a long ton, is equal to 2,240 pounds or approximately 1,016.05 kilograms.
Formula:
British tons × 1,016.05 = kilograms
Example:
1 long ton ≈ 1,016.05 kg
2 long tons ≈ 2,032.09 kg
5 long tons ≈ 5,080.23 kg
The Difference Between the Metric, U.S., and British Ton
There are three common units called "ton":
- 1 metric ton = 1,000 kg
- 1 U.S. ton (short ton) = approximately 907.18 kg
- 1 British ton, long ton = approximately 1,016.05 kg
When converting from English-language product data sheets, it is therefore important to verify which type of metric ton is being referred to.
