How do you combine the circular economy with an industrial reality where some machines can last for decades, while other products must be discarded immediately after use? At Colly Flowtech, we operate right in the midst of this fascinating contrast.
In this blog post, we’ll tell you more about how we extend the service life of advanced equipment and how we tackle the challenges posed by strict hygiene requirements and single-use products. How we manage that impact is crucial. For us at Colly Flowtech, it's about moving from ambition to action and making sustainability a natural part of every decision we make.
Our Service Centers: Strategic Maintenance That Makes a Difference
One of the most concrete examples of our circular approach to resource use is how we handle pump service and maintenance. Whether a pump has started to lose performance or we’re performing preventive optimization to ensure reliable operation, the goal is always to maximize the equipment’s service life.
Instead of immediately replacing equipment with new units, we bring it to one of our three service centers. There, we disassemble, refurbish, and customize the products to meet the specific needs of your business. This means that the pump can often continue to perform at a high level for many more years.
- For the customer: Lower overall costs and minimized risk of unexpected and costly downtime.
- For the environment: Significant savings in materials and resources—a concrete way to apply circular economy principles.
Our local service centers play a crucial role in this effort. By being close to our customers, we can act quickly and provide technical support where it’s needed. The fact that we also provide service regardless of the manufacturer allows us to keep more products in circulation for longer, which contributes to a more sustainable product flow.

The Challenge: When Disposable Products Are an Absolute Necessity
At the same time, we face a completely different reality when it comes to components such as hoses and fittings. In many applications, strict regulations regarding hygiene, safety, and process reliability require that products be used for a limited time and then discarded. In these environments, single-use products are often a prerequisite for ensuring sterility. This presents a clear challenge from a circularity perspective, but it also drives us to constantly innovate.
Julia Miefalk, Head of Quality and Sustainability, explains the balancing act:
”Meeting such diverse customer requirements is one of our biggest challenges, but also a rewarding part of our sustainability efforts. Circularity doesn’t look the same for a hygiene pump as it does for a gamma-irradiated single-use tubing used in pharmaceutical production; we must tailor our solutions to the specific requirements of each application. Our goal is to continuously reduce our environmental impact wherever possible, without ever compromising our customers” safety.”
The Path Forward Toward a More Sustainable Industry
Transitioning to more circular flows is fundamentally about challenging traditional patterns and capitalizing on the opportunities available right here and now. For us at Colly Flowtech, this means continuing to extend the service life of process equipment, while actively seeking out new, smarter material choices and future recycling solutions for our consumables.
An important part of this work is also how we work with our suppliers and ensure quality and reliability of supply throughout the value chain. Read more about how we work with supplier assessment.
We do not view this as a project with an end date, but rather as an ongoing process of developing how we continue to create business value while using as few resources as possible.
