VARIVENT® Mixproof Diverter Valves
VARIVENT® Mixproof Diverter Valves are used to distribute fluid in piping systems—that is, to distribute fluid from one pipe to two others—wherein one of the two pipes must be isolated from the outlet line using a mixproof function.
When the valve is closed (unoperated position), there are always two seals between the middle and upper pipelines. If a seal is defective, any resulting leakage is directed through the leak outlet to the surrounding area without mixing with the product in the other pipe.
The isolation between the middle and lower valve bodies is achieved using only one seal and is not suitable for separating two incompatible media. This method ensures that there is no mixing between a product line and a line carrying a cleaning medium.

The typical application for this mixproof valve with a switching function is the bypass function downstream of a pasteurizer.
For this application, the VARIVENT® mixproof Y-type diverter valve has been approved by the German Federal Dairy Research Center in Kiel for use downstream of a pasteurizer.
In double-seat valves with axial seals, there is a brief interval during each switching operation when the lower valve disc is neither in contact with the seal in the center of the upper valve disc nor has reached the axial seating surface of the seat ring. During this brief period, fluid can penetrate through the resulting gap into the leakage chamber and escape into the atmosphere. This is known as switching leakage.

Lifting Actuators (Type Y_C, Y_L)
The valves are equipped with a lifting mechanism that allows for the individual lifting of a single valve disc during cleaning of the relevant pipeline. The cleaning medium then passes over the seal on the lifted valve disc, cleans the leakage chamber, and is subsequently discharged through the leakage outlet into the surrounding area. In this way, all surfaces that come into contact with the product can be cleaned, including the sealing surfaces of the valve discs’ seals.
Spray Cleaning (Type Y, Y_L)
The valves have a cleaning connection that is located at the same height as the lantern, either as the sole connection (Type Y) or as an additional connection next to the lifting device (Type Y_L). Through this connection, a cleaning medium from an external source can be fed into the leakage chamber to clean the chamber using an integrated spray nozzle, as a supplement to the lifting device.
The cleaning medium is then discharged without pressure through the drain outlet into the surrounding area. Cleaning is performed with the valve closed, which means that the sealing surfaces in contact with each other do not come into contact during cleaning.
