What are aseptic globe valves and why are they needed? 

Aseptic globe valves are designed to be used in processes where the highest level of cleanliness and sterility is required, such as in the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries. What sets them apart from traditional globe valves is how each part of the aseptic globe valve is designed to prevent contamination. 

Traditional globe valves, even those that meet basic hygiene requirements, often have significantly more moving parts in contact with the product. They also have an internal design and multiple packing positions that make them difficult to clean and drain completely. But aseptic applications require more than that, they need valves that are designed from the outset to ensure sterility in every detail and that is exactly what the GEA VESTA® range offers.

  • PTFE bellows ensuring sterile barrier 
    GEA VESTA® uses a durable PTFE bellows (a Teflon sleeve that protects against contamination) to completely isolate the valve's moving parts from the product flow. Unlike globe valves, where the valve stem can carry dirt particles down into the process (known as the elevator effect) VESTA® eliminates that risk altogether.
  • Smart design for smooth flow and fast cleaning 
    One of the great strengths of VESTA® is its smart, easy-to-clean design. With a smooth inside and a deadleg-free design, the fluid can flow freely without leaving any residue. Unlike traditional globe valves, which often have hard-to-reach surfaces and shaft penetrations where product can get stuck, VESTA® makes it easy to clean the valve, saving time between cleaning cycles and eliminating the risk of old residues affecting the next production run. 
  • More efficient maintenance and lower operating costs 
    With fewer service points, shorter maintenance time and longer time between services compared to traditional globe valves, VESTA® contributes to lower costs and less downtime. In fact, maintenance can take up to 90% less time than with older technology globe valves.
